So I realized today that I have a hard time grasping the concept of gesture drawing. I've seen different ways of doing it and I wasn't really sure the way I needed to do it so I'm not entirely happy with the drawings from this class but I think I understand a bit more what I need to do. Or at least it's a small step in the right direction.
So this first drawing was before I decided to change the way I was drawing, after getting some feedback from Patrick. Every time I tried to draw someone they were sitting behind one of the trees...
All I have to say is her arms look weird. She kept moving them every few seconds..
And this last one..I don't have much to say about.
I attempted to draw people walking but that didn't turn out so well. They looked stiff and unnatural. I'll keep trying with that though and hopefully I'll figure out a good way to do it.
I really like the line variations you used in your sketches. I like that you did facial features but kept them limited so they don't take away from the figure.
ReplyDeleteI love the minimalism with these. Very simple, but they work really well. I definitely agree, it's so hard to capture people in motion. I'm so used to drawing still models. It'll definitely take some practice. :P
ReplyDeleteJessica,
ReplyDeleteThis is a good beginning. The 2nd and 3rd ones are stronger - the gesture is more convincing and the use of shading to push the form off the page.
Work on creating a more solid posture - and once you have the general gesture, focus on certain details: hands, hair, clothing, face. Also work on being more sensitive with your line weight.
I like the stylization here. It would really pop with some crisper lines.
